Akron, Ohio — L Darryl ARMSTRONG and Associates had the privilege of helping host more than 200 people at the dedication of Haley’s Run, a Lockheed Martin voluntary remediation and restoration project on Wednesday, June 30th.
Described by a representative of the Ohio EPA as a “model project” that sets the standards for how to do a project well, community members and their families along with local, state and federal officials and dignitaries walked the new trail and planted flowers and shrubs along the path as part of the celebration.
The project was a collaborative effort which included the RiverWorks restoration team that took the Haley’s Ditch and returned it to a natural stream. The work included digging a meandering stream, adding rocks and woody debris to create a natural habitat in the water; and planting native trees, shrubs and grasses to establish an ecosystem that attracts a variety of animals.
The project will be submitted for environmental excellence and community outreach and public involvement awards.
