Right upfront I will admit, I am a patriot, I believe in what our Founding Fathers intent was when our country was established and I will always defend, as part of my belief system, our Constitution and each of its amendments. I believe in the Bill of Rights. I still recite the Pledge and stand for our National Anthem.

I unabashedly profess to stand for and will defend to my death every person’s freedom and liberty.

I have evolved over the years from a “Republican” to a “Conservative” to now I am as close to being a dyed-n-the-wool Libertarian, as I will probably ever get and even in that word I am not sure my belief system is totally comfortable.

For my “Progressive” and “Socialist” and “Democrat” friends,  maybe I even agree with some those Taxed Enough Already (TEA) “pottiers,” as some choose to demean them when speaking of their principles.

Further, I have frequently gotten tears in my eyes when I listen to any rendition of our National Anthem. I thoroughly understand what it means to lose friends who have fought and many who have died or been injured in standing for our founding principles during times of war.

When Nicholas Connor gave his version of the National Anthem and I heard his interview this morning on Fox News, I was relieved to be reassured that there are children who have had good role-models and have been encouraged to find their talent, express their honest opinions and stand for something of value.

When I was Nicholas’ age, I was desperately seeking a Father’s attention. I needed encouragement and reassurance and a role-model, after all what kid doesn’t? I don’t know and have not heard anything about his parents yet there is no doubt in my mind that his parents have been exemplary role-models and have instilled the values on which our country was founded and that this young man is already a patriot in his philosophy, thinking and behavior.

When asked this morning where his talent came from he was quick to respond, ”It came from the Man upstairs” and later went on to say “I love America.”

You can see his interview and rendition of the song before the Houston Rockets game here Nicholas Conner interview:

And when Nicholas was surprised by the classiness of J.J. Watt, an NFL superstar coming onto the court unexpectedly to thank him for his performance — well, you have to see the video.

Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Connor for your role-models and you Nicholas, you made my day.

Semper fi.
